Feasibility of Determining Atmospheric Ozone from Outgoing Infrared Energy
نویسنده
چکیده
The high resolution (5 cm-1) measurements of the outgoing infrared energy in the region of the 9. 6 ~ ozone band offer a means of determining the vertical distribution and total amount of ozone in the earth's atmosphere. With the application of radiative transfer theory and perturbation technique a method is developed t o deduce such information. The method hinges on a two-parametric representation f f the ozone distribution in the earth's atmosphere. An error analysis based on four case studies is presel-ted to show how well the atmospheric ozone could be determined. It is found that a small error in radiance value is magnified considerabIy in the inferred atmospheric ozone.

Satellite measurements of the clear-sky greenhouse effect from tropospheric ozone
Radiative forcing from anthropogenic ozone in the troposphere is an important factor in climate change, with an average value of 0.35 W m according to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC). IPCC model results range from 0.25 to 0.65 W m, owing to uncertainties in the estimates of pre-industrial concentrations of tropospheric ozone, and in the present spatial and temporal distrib...
متن کاملMillimeter-wave Environmental Remote Sensing of Earth's Atmosphere
introduction It is well known to the scientific community that the spectral properties of the gases that make up the Earth’s atmosphere play a major role in determining the environment in which we live. For example, the temperature at the Earth’s surface is determined by the balance between the solar radiation absorbed at the Earth’s surface and the infrared radiation emitted by the Earth into ...
متن کاملA prediction distribution of atmospheric pollutants using support vector machines, discriminant analysis and mapping tools (Case study: Tunisia)
Monitoring and controlling air quality parameters form an important subject of atmospheric and environmental research today due to the health impacts caused by the different pollutants present in the urban areas. The support vector machine (SVM), as a supervised learning analysis method, is considered an effective statistical tool for the prediction and analysis of air quality. The work present...
متن کاملNadir measurements from ACE of column amounts of atmospheric gases
The feasibility of using nadir observations to make column measurements of several stratospheric gases will be evaluated for the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) Fourier-transform spectrometer (FTS), which is scheduled for launch in 2002 on the SCISAT-1 platform. The measurement technique is based on using FTIR spectroscopy to measure the atmospheric absorption of cold gases below the sat...

[1] A fast algorithm is developed to retrieve temperature, water vapor, and ozone atmospheric profile from the high spectral resolution Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer spaceborne instrument. Compression, denoising, and pattern recognition algorithms have been developed in a companion paper [Aires et al., 2002b]. A principal component analysis neural network using this a guess infor...
